Carpal Syndrome

September 27 2017 at 03:00 AM by Admin

Does the thumb side of your hand feel like it’s going to sleep-that weak, numb, pins-and-needles feeling — for no apparent reason? You may suspect that you have carpel tunnel syndrome.

The good news is that there are a number of methods you can try at home to ease your pain. And if those don’t work, surgery can be a highly effective treatment.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a condition that affects the hands and arms. It is commonly caused by a compressed nerve located on the wrist. Certain factors can contribute to carpal tunnel syndromes, such as an abnormal anatomy of your wrist, underlying health problems such as a wrist fracture, and patterns of hand use, such as improperly positioning your wrist while typing on a keyboard. Most people seek treatment through surgery, however, if you would prefer to avoid surgery, you can try treating your condition by exercising your wrists, managing your pain, taking medications, and trying alternative therapies.

Pain and Tingling:

Carpal tunnel develops slowly. At first, you’re most likely to notice it at night or when you first wake up in the morning. The feeling is similar to the “pins-and-needles” sensation you get when your hand falls asleep. During the day, you may notice pain or tingling when holding things, like a phone or a book, or when driving. Shaking or moving your fingers usually helps.

Go to physiotherapy or visit a Doctor

This is a form of rehabilitation that uses various methods to restore the functional use of your upper arm. Hand therapy is usually performed by a licensed physiotherapist or a registered physical therapist because they have the specialized skills to assess and evaluate each patient with carpal tunnel syndrome.
